Dragon Tamers (ドラゴンつかい, Dragon User) are an elite group of human Weavers, who for centuries, have had a strong connection to dragons. The bond between a Tamer and his/her dragon gives the Dragon Tamers a strong and powerful ability to use Madō and enhanced physical abilities. Through rigorous training, a Tamer would become some of the most powerful magicians and swordsmen on the planet. Newly bonded pairs of dragon and Dragon Tamers would sometimes train on their own, though it is not uncommon for two Tamers to be paired together for training by the Dragon Council. In the case of the latter, the training could consist of a senior dragon training the younger in aerial maneuvers (especially those used in battle), building stamina for long distance flights, increasing speed, and dragon lore. It is also mandatory requirement that the Tamer and his or her dragon would share their lessons. In order to do that the pair would keep their minds connected via telepathy so they could listen in on each other's lessons and learn. After class, the senior Tamer will test the two to ensure that both had learned each other's subject. Both the senior dragon and the senior Tamer are to be addressed by their students as 'Master' as is the custom of almost any Master-Student relationship.
To obtain a use for madō, the novice was given a set of frustrating, apparently impossible tasks that could not be accomplished without the aid of magic. If a student discovered it's ability before this regimen was complete, that student would be removed at once from the others and apprenticed to another elder.
The formal training of a Tamer and dragon traditionally took many years, and the Dragon Tamers continued to hone their skills throughout their lives. Dragon Tamers are very few in number. Only one hundred may exist at any given time.

- Once bonded with a Dragon, a Tamer can live for thousands of years and remain in their prime, however, they still can die of natural causes, wounds from battle, and sicknesses.
